Video Display in WordPress 3.x

The video inserted below is an example of a video display in WordPress 3.x created with valid code per W3C and cross-browser compatible. This photo edit tutorial is practical for learning how to use a new WordPress blog because it demonstrates how to crop and edit a photo in IrfanView to illustrate a website or blog post. Instructions below include software resources used to make this video.

The original footage includes 640×480 jpg still shot photos for the opening intro and closing outro sequences, plus screen capture footage at 640×480 showing the step by step crop and edit process. The finished video was produced at 480×360 in MP4 format including an audio track with narration and royalty free background music for a professional touch.

Software resources used to create this video demo for a WordPress v3.x blog post: Camtasia Studio v6.0 and recorder, customized MC Altair Media Player v0.8 files including mcmp_0.8.swf, and mcmp_0.8.js, Audacity audio edit software, and IrfanView photo edit software, plus custom xhtml and css for presentation.

Note: All of the above are free open source software programs except for Camtasia. Right click any blank space in this post to “View Source” and look for the div id=”media” to see the actual xhtml source code to display the video and player. Replace the mp4 file name with yours and use the help files for Camtasia, Mc Altair, Audacity, and IrfanView if you encounter any problems.

Use photos and graphics to help tell your story and keep your website interesting. This video tutorial can help you enhance multimedia presentations with advice to edit and crop photos as well as how to create a professional video.

WordPress v3 Production Release

stork comic delivering wp v3This humorous illustration with mother and child looking on depicts a conversation as the stork delivers a baby. Yes, the WordPress v3.0 Production Release is official.

Mother: Wow! You arrived before expected!
Child: New v3.0 WordPress?
Child (again): I wanted a puppy!!

I discovered the upgrade last night during installation of a redesigned blog converted from Blogger to WordPress for Adams Lawn Services of Florida. Once WordPress was installed the first screen had the “You are using v.2.9.2″ nag message announcing v3.0 was available.

The upgrade from WordPress v2.9.2 to v3.0 from the backend admin was fast and flawless. The official announcement includes a video summary of WordPress v3.0 features in HD.

When importing previous posts into WordPress the list of options was much shorter and when choosing RSS it included a popup to a new WordPress.org plugin to import RSS. Again, the post import was fast and flawless. In addition, my custom widget ready WordPress theme design displays and functions exactly as intended, so the upgrade to v3.0 should be easy for my clients.

Footnote: The illustration for this post showing a stork delivering WordPress v3.0 was created doing an edit of a public domain copyright expired Buster Brown graphic on Wikimedia.org if you want to compare the original to my version.
